1.Nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate): Cialis and nitrates both lower blood pressure. Taking them together can cause a significant and potentially life-threatening drop in blood pressure (hypotension), leading to dizziness, fainting, or even heart attack or stroke. It is contraindicated to use Cialis with nitrates or recreational "poppers" (amyl nitrites).
2.Alpha-blockers (e.g., prazosin, terazosin, tamsulosin): Both Cialis and alpha-blockers relax blood vessels, which can lead to excessive blood pressure reduction when used together. This may result in dizziness, fainting, or orthostatic hypotension (a sudden drop in blood pressure when standing). If needed, your doctor may adjust the dosage or recommend spacing the medications.
3.Other antihypertensive drugs (e.g., atenolol, propranolol, enalapril, lisinopril): Cialis can enhance the blood-pressure-lowering effects of these medications. While this interaction is usually less severe than with nitrates or alpha-blockers, it can still cause dizziness or fainting in sensitive individuals. Close monitoring of blood pressure is recommended.
Cialis (tadalafil) can interact with certain foods and beverages, potentially altering its effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects. Here are the key drug-food interactions to be aware of:
The effectiveness and safety of oral tablets in treating ED are still being studied. In clinical trials, taken as needed, Cialis (tadalafil) caused a small but significant increase in blood pressure, compared to taking it in a pill every 24 hours. The efficacy was demonstrated inmale and female men with mild ED, prior to initiating treatment, in a controlled hypertensive study in patients prescribed oral tadalafil for other reasons.
Cialis (tadalafil) is available in various forms, including oral tablets and tablets. The effectiveness and safety of Cialis in treating ED are still being studied.
Pfizer Inc. said Tuesday that it will no longer sell its patent for Cialis to treat erectile dysfunction, the first prescription drug for the condition.
The company said it plans to sell the drug to a U. S. pharmacy for $4.50 to $5 per tablet. It said it has not yet decided what other uses it will offer Pfizer for its erectile dysfunction drug.
Shares of the drug maker rose 8.1 percent in after-hours trading. It is expected to make a profit of more than $2.2 billion in the fourth quarter.
Pfizer said it would make payments to insurers to help cover costs for erectile dysfunction medications, such as Viagra and Cialis, which the drug maker has said are needed for the treatment of the condition. The company said it would also pay for other erectile dysfunction treatments such as Levitra and Staxyn, which were still under patent.
Pfizer also said it would pay for treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension, a form of high blood pressure in the lungs, and some other drugs to treat the condition.
The drug's maker, GlaxoSmithKline PLC, said in a statement Tuesday that it would seek approval for its "non-invasive" use in erectile dysfunction patients.
The company said it plans to appeal the decision, which is expected to be appealed by the two main companies.
Pfizer Inc., the world's largest drug maker, said in a statement that its results in the third quarter of 2006 showed the drug to be more effective than placebo, but that it had not yet approved its use in patients with erectile dysfunction.
The company said its results were available in the first quarter of 2006.
In a statement, Pfizer said it has not received any reports of adverse events related to the drug.
Pfizer said that it expects the results of the trial to be submitted to regulators for approval, and that it expects to have its results submitted to the FDA through 2007.
Pfizer Inc., the world's second-largest drug maker, said in a statement that its results in the third quarter of 2006 showed the drug to be more effective than placebo, but that it had not yet approved its use in patients with erectile dysfunction.
The company said that it has not received any reports of adverse events related to the drug.
Pfizer said that its earnings were lower than anticipated due to a decrease in the value of the shares of the drug company, which closed at $32.60 on news wire Tuesday.
Pfizer shares closed at $30.74, down 2.1 percent at $35.08.

The U. S. Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday announced that it has cleared a new rule that requires a doctor to perform an examination of a man's penis before prescribing Cialis to an adult male.
The new rule follows the agency's previous decision to approve an earlier version of the drug called Viagra, which was approved by the FDA in 1998.
The FDA had previously rejected the proposal because it was based on insufficient evidence, and the agency decided to make a decision by issuing a black box warning to consumers about its proposed rule.
According to its, a federal health care provider can perform an examination of a man's penis and may prescribe Cialis for an adult male.
The rule comes after years of controversy over the use of Viagra.
"This is an important new rule that will help the FDA make a decision that will protect men and their health from the potential side effects of the drug," said FDA spokeswoman Heather Bresch. "We urge men and their families to weigh in and make their own decisions about their health and the safety of their medicine."
The FDA said in a statement that it "remains committed to making the new rule."
The FDA said that "as with any rule, the agency will evaluate the safety and effectiveness of each medicine and use the agency's judgment and expertise to make a determination regarding the safety and effectiveness of each medicine."
The rule also comes after a study of the drug revealed that Viagra was more effective than Cialis for a man with erectile dysfunction.
The FDA has also said that the drug is more likely to be prescribed for those who have a heart condition and those who have heart failure.
According to an Associated Press investigation, Viagra is currently available without a prescription in 60 countries.

Cialis has been the most popular erectile dysfunction drug in the United States since it was introduced in 1998. In 2000, it was the number one seller of the drug.A 2017 study by the U. National Library of Medicine showed that men taking Cialis were as likely to have erectile dysfunction as those taking Viagra. In addition, the researchers found that the drugs were similarly safe to men taking Viagra.
A 2018 analysis of data from the FDA's medical record database, found that erectile dysfunction is a chronic condition that affects over 20 million men in the United States.
The FDA's new rule will also require a doctor to perform an assessment of the penis before prescribing Cialis.
The rule is the latest effort by the agency to create a new rule that will allow doctors to determine whether the person with a medical condition has erectile dysfunction.
The new rule would allow doctors to prescribe a drug called Tadalafil to men who have been diagnosed with erectile dysfunction and who have no other significant medical conditions.
In the new rule, doctors will need to perform an evaluation by a doctor, such as a urologist, an endocrinologist or a psychiatrist.

The FDA is now considering the issue of erectile dysfunction.
According to the, the FDA has "decided to make a new rule that would allow doctors to prescribe a drug that may be a safer alternative to prescription drugs."
According to the, the FDA is "concerned about potential harm to its patients and evaluating whether physicians should be allowed to prescribe prescriptions that are not in compliance with current laws and regulations."
The FDA is also "concerned about potential harm to its patients" because Viagra has been shown to have no safety problems in some clinical trials.
A 2017 study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine showed that the drug was not as safe as some of the older erectile dysfunction drugs Viagra and Cialis.
A 2019 study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine revealed that the drug was not as safe as some of the older erectile dysfunction drugs.
In a separate report, the FDA said that, "because of the potential risks for consumers, the FDA is taking steps to ensure that prescriptions are not filled without the guidance of a health care professional.
